Introduction to Know, Grow, Go
.
A Study on DISCIPLESHIP
“And this is eternal life, that they KNOW you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” -John 17:3
“But GROW in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” -2 Peter 3:18
“And he said to them, ‘GO into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation’.” – Mark 16:15
.
Traditional View of Discipleship:
LINEAR IN TIME
This view of discipleship is to share the gospel with people so they can KNOW God, be saved and go to heaven when they die. Then as they GROW closer to God at some point in time, they will GO share the gospel with others when they become a really good Christian.
.
Biblical View of Discipleship:
WHOLISTIC (TOGETHER)
The biblical view of discipleship is that the process of becoming a disciple of Jesus is a continuous process of getting to KNOW God, GROW in our relationship with him, and in turn GO introduce him to others so that they can do the same. It is true that a person comes to KNOW God through Jesus at a specific point in time and is born again upon trusting Christ as Lord and savior, but it should never be the end-all for making a disciple. A disciple is one who does not just confess Jesus as Lord but is one who is GROWING closer to him daily and is GOING and reproducing themselves. A disciple does not need to wait until a certain time in their Christian life to GO share Jesus with someone else. They can share what they KNOW, and as they GROW, they will continue the process of GOING.
